BEFORE HURRICANE MARIA

TRAVELOGUE VIEQUES, PUERTO RICO 2017

2017 VACATION – TWO WEEKS BEFORE HURRICANE MARIA

Vieques is a Caribbean island off Puerto Rico’s eastern coast. It’s known for boat tours of Bioluminescent Bay (or Mosquito Bay), where microorganisms give the water a blue-green glow. It also offers secluded beaches and snorkeling. Wild horses roam the countryside, much of which is preserved as the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge.

Home base for the week.
Right off the water, 10 minute walk from Isabella II, Vieques
(The ferry from Farajdo side of the island.)
Mornings usually began with a strong cup of Bustelo, then a walk into town to replenish supplies, then quick breakfast before exploring.
If you look hard enough you can see another person in the distance, and further still in the distance you can see a para-sail…  Most beaches, we found ourselves alone.  if you see more than a few folks on any particular beach, drive a mile up or down the shore and find yourself once again on your own little private beach.
We either have Lunch or dinner at the best spot on the Island

El Yate

Remember to stay hydrated !!

We usually ended our days back at the Villa watching the Ferry return to the mainland, cooling off in the pool, then watching the amazing sunsets.
So much to see and do, one of my favorite destinations to just relax and unwind.
VERY HEAVY RAINS
Storm as we were driving to the airport, for a week in Old San Juan.
Hurricane Maria was 2 weeks away.
